ABOUT CALEB                                                         Caleb's Head Office, The Old Dairy in Gloucestershire, UK.

Caleb is an international multi-disciplinary sustainable development consultancy based in Wotton Under Edge (near Bristol, England). The company was established in 1994, initially as a vehicle for Paul Ashford (Managing Director) to continue his career in 'issues' management. Paul, a chemist by training, had been with BP Chemicals during the previous 15 years, where he undertook a series of roles including technology licensing, business development and general management.

In 1998 Arnie Vetter (Environmental Director) joined Caleb and took on the remits of environmental project management and Sustainable Development to help grow this area of the business. Arnie's previous career spanned the private, public and voluntary sectors, where he had developed experience in managing multi-stakeholder research and industry projects. Arnie came to Caleb from the Environmental NGO Worldwide Fund For Nature, where he had responsibility for developing sustainability based business education programmes.

In 2003, Caleb was joined by Dr. Paul Becker, who is based in Wiesbaden, Germany and who is increasingly taking the lead on chemicals issues. His organic chemist background and experience from the German and U.S. resins industry allows him to address a wide range of issues in the chemical area.

Paul Becker is working successfully with chemical companies / consortia in the area of:

•  EU PBT assessment including management of         related tests.
•  Food contact related regulatory questions.
•  Management of chemical Round Robin testing.
•  Management of toxicological tests.
•  Industry oriented preparatory work for REACH         implementation.
•  EU chemical registration.

In 2006, John Yates joined the team as REACH Projects Manager. John is responsible for the development of dedicated REACH Projects that capitalise on our expertise in managing 'Chemical' Task forces. He is leading the delivery of a series of consortia that will focus on the assessment of chemicals data/data-gaps, the filling of these data gaps and subsequent submission of dossiers that meet the requirements of REACH. John comes with substantial senior projects management experience in a variety of manufacturing environments.

Alan Ritchie joined us in early 2007.  He has considerable experience in chemical risk management and will take forward aspects of our REACH Consortium management business.  Alan is a regulatory affairs professional with substantial trade group involvement and experience of European chemicals regulations.  He has extensive experience of the specialty chemicals and cosmetics businesses.

In late 2007, Chris Turner joined the team.  Chris has extensive experience as a regulatory affairs manager in the agrochemicals industry.  He was responsible for the project management of several active substance review dossiers and negotiated with regulatory authorities at both EU and Member State level.  He has also been a member of several industry task forces and trade association committees.

Tom McKellar-Smythe joined us in July 2008 and is a chemical regulatory affairs expert with specialist knowledge of ingredients for coatings, household and industrial preparations, as well as building products.  Tom has many years of experience in industry with a broad knowledge of the supply and use of materials.  He has also been, like Chris, active in trade association committees and research associations.

Most recently, we welcomed Dr. Phil Pritchard to Caleb.  Phil is a professional regulatory scientist with over 20 years of international experience gained at a senior level in a multinational corporation. With a background in the agrochemical and speciality chemicals industry he has been involved in European trade associations and a number of industry task forces. He has also appeared numerous times at UN WHO and FAO panels. Phil will be active in REACH SIEF and Consortium management.
